Alaoji NIPP Set for Full Return as NDPHC, TotalEnergies Advance Gas Supply Deal
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has recorded a major milestone today in Lagos as its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, engaged in constructive discussions with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer, and his team.
The engagement produced renewed commitments from both organizations toward the re-commissioning of the 450MW Alaoji NIPP Power Plant.
According to updates from the meeting, all is now in place for the plant to return to full grid operations following the approval of an uninterrupted gas supply arrangement from the gas provider on a prepayment basis.
The Alaoji plant was safely shut down three years ago due to gas supply disputes linked to metering discrepancies. With the technical issues now resolved and the EPC contractor concluding remedial work on the gas supply line both NDPHC and TotalEnergies have advanced into commercial discussions aimed at ensuring the plant’s long-term operational sustainability within current electricity market conditions.
The move is expected to restore significant generation capacity to the national grid and support power supply stability across the country.
Matthieu Bouyer has been the Managing Director/Chief Executive of TotalEnergies Upstream Companies in Nigeria, and the company’s official representative, since June 2021.
