Kidnappers Abduct MAPOLY Graduate, Demand ₦30m Ransom

The family of a recent graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been thrown into anguish following her abduction by suspected kidnappers who are demanding ₦30 million for her release.

The victim, Oladipupo Opeyemi, a Mass Communication graduate who completed her studies last year, was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday while returning from Abuja, according to family sources.

Her father, Mr. Olajide Oladipupo Nathaniel, confirmed the incident in a message circulated among her classmates, disclosing that the kidnappers contacted him later that night through an unknown phone number.

“They allowed her to speak with me briefly. She sounded calm, but before I could ask questions, they took over the call and demanded ₦30 million, giving us 48 hours to pay,” he said.

Mr. Olajide, a carpenter, said he pleaded with the abductors, explaining that he lacked the means to raise such an amount, after which the line was disconnected.

He added that security agencies, including the Army and the Department of State Services, had been informed and had commenced investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, Opeyemi’s classmates and departmental leaders have mobilised support for the distressed family. Her Head of Class, Olamide Adeboye, said students were contributing funds to assist in any way possible while prayers continued for her safe return.

Also confirming the development, the President of the Association of Mass Communication Students (AMACOS), Okikiola Adams, said the department’s leadership had been briefed.

“The Head of Department is aware, and the last update we received was the ₦30 million ransom demand,” Adams said.

The abduction has heightened anxiety within the MAPOLY community, coming amid rising concerns over kidnappings and insecurity across major highways in the country.

Mr. Olajide expressed appreciation to Opeyemi’s course mates and members of the public for their show of solidarity, describing their support as a source of strength during the ordeal.

He appealed to Nigerians to keep his daughter in their prayers as the family remains hopeful of her safe return.
